Harsh sunlight streamed in through an open window, bathing the guest bedroom in a golden hue. I rubbed the sleep from eyes and looked around, still partially asleep.  Sitting atop the armchair in the corner was a bundle of red silk, wrinkled and folded yet somehow still lovely. With a start, I noticed a pale hand on my chest, its fingers curled slightly. "Dear God, what happened last night?"

At the sound of my voice, Maria awoke, a small smile on her lips. "Good morning, James." With a contented sigh, she nestled her head against my chest once more, pressing closer. Though she had just woken up, her eyes twinkled as brightly as usual, lighting up her entire face.

For a moment, I simply laid there, enjoying the feeling of Maria being tucked in beside me. The way she fit perfectly in the crook of my arm, the feeling of her porcelain skin under my touch… I shook my head violently, trying to clear it. "Maria… What happened last night?"

With a smile, she propped up on one elbow, a teasing look on her face. "James, I'm surprised you don't remember!" Seeing my confused expression, she continued. "You wouldn't take no for an answer… I didn't want to say no. I never saw you as the type, but you proved me wrong." She paused for a moment, fluttering her lashes. "You were amazing."

Maria laughed as I turned a bright shade of tomato red, my breath catching in my throat. As hard as I tried, I couldn't string together a sentence, much to her amusement.

Laughing again, Maria slid from the bed and sauntered towards the en-suite bathroom. She turned back around, looking me straight in the eyes. "Nothing happened, James. When it does happen, trust me, you'll remember." She grinned like the cat that ate the canary. "You'll never forget."

My heart rate quickened, and I called after her, "When? Not if?"

As a response, she simply laughed and threw her rumpled dress at me before shutting the door. For a few long moments, I stared at the scarlet red fabric, a goofy grin on my face.
:iconlaplz:

Maria will never stop teasing James. Ever. :D
This is the third and final part of The Red Silk Dress. I figured this would be a great way to finish it up. I hope you like! :)
